Santa Cruz Gives returns for third year of holiday fundraising
Santa Cruz Gives, Santa Cruz County’s first crowdsourcing website for local fundraising, launches for its third holiday season on November 15. Fundraising ends December 31, 2017.
The campaign raises funds for 33 selected nonprofits via SantaCruzGives.org where donors can shop individual pages that state each nonprofit’s mission and a project for 2018 that donations will fund, then go to a shopping cart for easy clicking and giving.
In 2015, the first year, $92,688 was raised, and in 2016, $181,089 was donated, with nonprofits reporting many new donors.
The Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County leads a committee that selects projects that cover the county geographically and represent diverse needs: youth, seniors, animals, the environment, education, health and wellness, food and nutrition, housing and homelessness, arts, families, and the disabled.
The website will be live on November 10, which represents a soft launch before the official announcement November 15.
Santa Cruz Gives was founded by local weekly newspaper Good Times in partnership with the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County. Oswald Restaurant joined this year as a sponsor of the three awards ($1,000 each: Most donors overall; Most donors under 35 years old; Most innovative program). Santa Cruz County Bank and Wynn Capital Management are returning corporate sponsors.
