Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Cruz County

Organization Mission

Boys & Girls Clubs mission is to inspire and enable children and teens, especially those who need us most, to build character and confidence and to realize their full potential as productive, compassionate, and responsible citizens.

We do this by providing safe places filled with opportunity, enriching programs, and caring adults who actively cultivate relationships to ensure that our youth feel connected, supported and valued. Our programs focus on educational, vocational, recreational, social and character development of youth ages 6-18.

We offer daily afterschool drop-in programs five days a week at our downtown Santa Cruz, Live Oak, and Scotts Valley clubs. We host summer and holiday day camps, and seasonal programs that include art, music, swim lessons and youth basketball. In 2020-21, we provided safe, accessible childcare and academic support for families of essential workers while schools were closed.

The Big Idea 2022:
Power Hour + SMART Moves Programs

Our clubhouse-wide “Power Hour” program complements and reinforces what youth learn at school via daily 60-minute sessions in which every member at the club receives homework help, tutoring, or participates in self-directed learning.

The Boys & Girls Club provided me with a safe space to grow and experiment. It allowed me to expand my horizons and realize opportunities I didn’t realize I would have. I’m really grateful for that.
The SMART Moves program supports social-emotional learning and helps youth strengthen healthy decision-making, boost self-esteem, avoid risky behaviors, develop assertiveness, analyze media and peer influence, and build resilience.

With your support, we can ensure that kids get the academic enrichment and social-emotional support they need as we emerge from the pandemic, and never turn away any child for inability to pay thanks to our donor-supported scholarship fund. All club services are available to all youth, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, family situation, or mental or physical ability.

The Boys & Girls Club provided me with a safe space to grow and experiment. It allowed me to expand my horizons and realize opportunities I didn’t realize I would have. I’m really grateful for that.
