Recovery Café Santa Cruz

Organization Mission

Recovery Café Santa Cruz was launched last year to provide a sober, social support network in a healing community for individuals recovering from life’s traumas.

We help our members heal and learn coping strategies to live fulfilling, stable and healthy lives. The first Recovery Café started in 2004 and has since grown to a network of 37 independent nonprofits across the U.S. and Canada.

The Big Idea 2022:
RCSC - Safe Steps

In 2022, RCSC will expand to provide a safe, welcoming community two days a week for people to find support in their healing and growth — with free coffee, snacks and lunch.

There are few places where people on the street or in housing can go during the day to be safe, warm, or out of a lonely living situation. In this time of social isolation and stress, sitting alone at a coffee shop or attending a one-hour support group may not be enough. Members will have their struggles heard and they will receive encouragement from their peers. Each member has individual discussions regarding their goals and referrals to assist them in reaching them, when appropriate.

Members share their knowledge, are peer supports, and volunteer within the program as they are able. Please help us make Santa Cruz County a healthier place.

It gives me a reason to get up when I'm hurting because I can see what it means to our members to have someone who cares and is consistent.

Elaine S., Ben Lomond, board member/support group facilitator

We’re In This Together

Nonprofits are more important that ever in this trying time. Santa Cruz Gives! was created to support the local nonprofit community's Big Ideas (and programs). And thanks to your participation and generosity, Santa Cruz Gives! raised over $1.10 million for 82 local nonprofits in 2021.

SCGives! has now raised and contributed over $36 million dollars since its inception Seven years ago. That’s astounding. And wonderful. Thank you to all our Partners, Sponsors, nonprofit Board Directors, staff and volunteers — and each of our 1,455 donors. We did it, together.
