Organization Mission

Our organization aims to cultivate a place to honor, protect, and encourage all veterans to live their best lives by providing a safe place for veterans and the community to meet and engage.

The Big Idea 2022:
Veterans Village – Veteran-Owned & Operated

We have raised 75% of the funds needed to develop a Veterans Village that would provide housing for up to 40 veterans in need of permanent, supportive, affordable housing in Santa Cruz County. We have the support of community leaders to acquire a property with housing that will ultimately generate the revenue to support itself through HUD-Vash funding (for veterans housing).

Once set up, the model is designed to generate funds for operations and future expansion. It also enables us to build real estate equity for the nonprofit. We need your initial help to provide a community center, onsite support service staff, and operation. The village will be a model of affordable housing and will serve the community for generations to come. Funds raised so far are private funds and our achievements are the result of community partners, like you. We are so grateful for the generosity of Santa Cruz County locals!

There are currently about 160 local vets that qualify for or have housing funds but there are insufficient housing options. Many veterans have a hard time transitioning back into “normal life” and find themselves isolated without their military community. The VMB provides a safe, supportive community. Our current model generates funds from events and rentals of the VMB. All profit goes back in to provide services and individualized paths to success for our Santa Cruz County veterans.

The Vets Hall saved my life. It is only right and just that I give of myself to make sure that the Vets Hall can save others’ lives as well.

Nonprofits are more important that ever in this trying time. Santa Cruz Gives! was created to support the local nonprofit community's Big Ideas (and programs). And thanks to your participation and generosity, Santa Cruz Gives! raised over $1.10 million for 82 local nonprofits in 2021.

SCGives! has now raised and contributed over $36 million dollars since its inception Seven years ago. That’s astounding. And wonderful. Thank you to all our Partners, Sponsors, nonprofit Board Directors, staff and volunteers — and each of our 1,455 donors. We did it, together.
