Walnut Avenue Family & Women's Center

Organization Mission

Our mission is to end cycles of trauma, support lifelong learning, and promote healthy relationships with oneself and others.

Walnut Avenue is a strength-based family center that has provided services for women, children, and families in Santa Cruz County for 90 years. Many participants are from underserved populations, lack stable housing, and/or experience domestic violence. Programs include an Early Education Center, Services for Children & Youth, Services for Survivors of Domestic Violence, Family Support Services, and Community Engagement.

The Big Idea 2026:
Legal Alliance Service Heroes

Walnut Avenue strives to offer trauma-informed legal services to domestic violence survivors, marginalized individuals, people with disabilities, and others who lack access to resources. Currently we offer legal advocacy and provide legal assistance with domestic violence restraining orders and support at court.

At this time, there is no funding stream to offer a more consistent and grounded structure for legal services. We see that the more steadily participants are able to use our services the more successful the outcomes and their shift for change and hope becomes. We are determined to create new legal workshops, find more service providers and potentially broaden the scope of service to include protective orders, and more.

Thank you for your support!

I have been going through one of the most difficult and overwhelming times in my life, and this center and the staff have truly helped me more than anyone and anything. I am deeply grateful for this place.
