Farm Discovery at Live Earth is driven by a mission to empower youth and families to regenerate health in food farming nature and community. Our home, Live Earth Farm, is a 150-acre patchwork of working farm, oak and redwood groves, and riparian corridor located in the Pajaro Valley north of Watsonville.
Farm Discovery is dedicated to addressing nutrition insecurity by growing and distributing organic produce to vulnerable residents of Santa Cruz and surrounding areas. In addition, we provide educational experiences, including field trips and farm camps, where youth are taught about sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and environmental stewardship. Combining food distribution with hands-on learning empowers young people to transform their relationship with food, agriculture, and their community.
In 2025 we will grow, harvest, and deliver 5,000 pounds of produce (20 fruits and vegetables) through the Farm Discovery fields, and 50,000 in partnership with Live Earth Farm, which allows us to glean excess produce. We’ll add family farm partners to expand our reach in 2024-2025 (we currently partner with Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes, Holy Cross Food Pantry, Encompass Community Services), while reducing produce waste in the process.
With your support, we’ll continue this, keeping our cost to only $1.30/pound of produce, which covers produce and all labor.
