Santa Cruz Gives returns for fifth year of holiday fundraising

Santa Cruz County's crowdsourcing campaign for local fundraising, Santa Cruz Gives, is live for its fifth holiday season. Donations are accepted through December 31, 2019.

Why wait until you're about to pop open the Champagne? Well, you might.

This year's campaign presents 38 selected nonprofits and their Big Idea for 2020 — a project that donations will support. SantaCruzGives.org makes it easy for donors to learn about each organization on their individual page, and use the shopping cart to give to favorites.

Checks can also be mailed (payable to Santa Cruz Gives) and cash can be delivered to the Volunteer Center (see the FAQ for details).

A seven-member committee vets applications and selects a variety of organizations, choosing a slate of nonprofits that present a compelling project and meet a few criteria collectively, such as: cover the county geographically and address diverse needs: from serving youth and seniors to animals and the environment.

Five more organizations were included this year over last year. The number accepted is limited in order to give each nonprofit a fair opportunity to raise funds. As the total amount of funds raised grows, more nonprofits will be included.

Santa Cruz Gives was founded by local weekly newspaper Good Times in partnership with the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County and with the support of Community Foundation Santa Cruz County, Santa Cruz County Bank, Wynn Capital Management and Oswald Restaurant.
