AFC works to end homelessness through interfaith action.
Through a network of 30+ faith communities, AFC shelters over 150 individuals annually through our shelter and safe parking programs, with 46% moving to permanent housing. We also provide 1,500+ hot showers annually with our mobile shower trailer.
The hallmark of AFC’s programs is community. We believe every person thrives in supportive relationships. The heart of our work is bridging the gap between volunteers and participants so that all find belonging and a meaningful life of their choosing.
Watsonville saw a 60% rise in homelessness in the last year and currently has no low-barrier shelter beds for single adults. We hope to start a 20-bed shelter using the space and resources of local faith communities.
AFC has operated an effective shelter model for 12 years, in both cost and outcomes, in North County. Last year, 46% of shelter members moved to permanent housing. With a drastic rise in homelessness in Watsonville and alarmingly few shelter beds, we’re working to bring this model in partnership with local faith communities and organizations. Funds raised will go toward startup costs, which include sleeping mats, shelter supplies and a vehicle to transport shelter members from site to site.
No one ever gave up. They just kept looking. They just kept encouraging me. (On AFC staff support he received while searching for housing.)
