The Amah Mutsun Land Trust (AMLT), an initiative of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, is the vehicle by which the Amah Mutsun access, protect, and steward lands that are integral to their identity and culture.
Our programs include Sacred Lands Protection, Native Plant Restoration, Ocean and Coastal Stewardship, and Cultural Burning.
Ten years ago Amah Mutsun Land Trust was founded by the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band to help heal their people and land. To celebrate our anniversary, our BIG IDEA is to announce that AMLT is acquiring traditional Tribal land! For the first time in over 225 years, in 2026, the Mutsun people will have permanent, protected access to lands in their ancestral territory, places to restore ceremony, dance and hold Tribal gatherings. To help care for the land, AMLT has relaunched the Native Stewardship Corps, a program that helps young tribal members learn to protect sacred plants and animals, and keep the Mutsun culture alive.
2026 is the start of a new decade of AMLT, one that helps protect Indigenous lands and ways until the last sunset. We are humbled, excited, and invite you to join us in Healing Mother Earth — together.
I’m grateful to AMLT for giving me the space to reconnect to family, our culture, and the land. Through the Summer Intern Program I was able to grow my knowledge about archaeology and see how they used less invasive methods. I was able to learn how to do SSU’s (surface survey units), GPR (ground penetrating radar), excavation, flotation, and mapping. It was exciting to have hands-on experience in identifying mussels, fire affected rocks, chert, Olivella shells, etc. I'm thankful to see in person the importance of tribal led archaeology and partnership shown through AMLT and University of Oregon.
