Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County

Organization Mission

We create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Our vision is that all youth achieve their full potential. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

Since 1982, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County has served at no cost 8,500 youth through our outcomes-based, proven model of mentoring services. We serve youth of all genders, ages 7-18 and their families.

The Big Idea 2025:

In Santa Cruz County, many children face mental health challenges without adequate support systems. At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we uphold values of commitment and compassion, recognizing the transformative power of mentorship in their lives. Through meaningful relationships, we provide the support to navigate life’s hurdles, addressing social isolation and instilling confidence and resilience in youth we serve. By connecting children with caring adult mentors, we empower them to overcome obstacles and build a brighter future.

Our small staff of three coordinate hundreds of volunteers. Currently we’re recruiting more volunteer mentors to match with youth who are ready to start their mentorship journey. Your donation helps cover the cost of enrolling and training mentors, ensuring each child is paired with a safe, prepared adult. Every donation helps grow our community of mentors and support more children.

I’m constantly in awe of how much impact comes from being a mentor, in being matched to such a wonderful kid for nearly seven years. You find time for what brings you joy, and my ‘Little’ certainly does that for me. I hope I do the same for her.
