The Bird School Project (BSP) inspires and equips students and teachers to love, study, and steward their local environment by making nature-based science accessible on campus. We spark curiosity and authentic inquiry outdoors, provide the tools and support educators need to continue lessons, create memorable field-journal experiences, and build a culture where exploration, science, and stewardship are cool and open to all.
BSP transforms schoolyards into outdoor classrooms for thousands of local students. In 2026, we’ll expand this proven program so that more under-resourced schools can join. Imagine students trading desks for binoculars and journals—often for the very first time—discovering the birds and ecosystems of Monterey Bay.
Research shows that these outdoor experiences foster health, curiosity, and belonging. With your support, programs remain affordable, ensuring youth can explore nature and grow.
We reach 4,500+ students annually, most from communities with limited access to outdoor learning, and support teachers with resources and field outings, multiplying the impact.
Bird School is an interactive and effective way for students to experience hands-on, place-based environmental education. Hearing the conversations about birds and observations after this unit is something I really enjoy.
