Eat for the Earth

Organization Mission

Eat for the Earth makes it easier for people to eat more plants and less animal products to sustain all life on Earth.

Many people in our community are becoming aware that dietary choices impact the environment, contribute to the climate crisis, species loss, water pollution, deforestation, and other challenges. We can each be part of the solution by transitioning to plant-based or plant-centered diets. Eat for the Earth supports that shift through education, tools, support, partnerships, and love.

The Big Idea 2022:
Community Rx

In the face of life-threatening health and environmental crises, citizens of Santa Cruz County are extremely concerned about their health, the health of the community, and the state of our environment. Community Rx supports community members who want to make a dietary change that prevents and often reverses deadly chronic diseases, reduces severity of COVID symptoms, contributes positively to the environment, is kind to non-human animals, and tastes great!

Eat for the Earth provides education and advocacy promoting the benefits of plant-based and plant-strong diets.
Our accomplishments include:

• Worked with 9 restaurants to increase plant-based offerings.
• Provided education at ten community festivals in our county, and served 450 free, whole-food, plant-based meals + 8,787 food samples.
• Held seven free dinner party presentations.
• Provided educational speakers for numerous local events.

Changing my diet to plant-based was incredible. Within days, I felt aligned with what was important and my body was electric. I’m so excited to share with others: You don’t have to be sick anymore. There is something you can do and it is so easy.

We’re In This Together

Nonprofits are more important that ever in this trying time. Santa Cruz Gives! was created to support the local nonprofit community's Big Ideas (and programs). And thanks to your participation and generosity, Santa Cruz Gives! raised over $1.10 million for 82 local nonprofits in 2021.

SCGives! has now raised and contributed over $36 million dollars since its inception Seven years ago. That’s astounding. And wonderful. Thank you to all our Partners, Sponsors, nonprofit Board Directors, staff and volunteers — and each of our 1,455 donors. We did it, together.
