Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay

Organization Mission

Our mission is to build decent, affordable homes and provide home ownership opportunities to qualified families who live and work in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Together, our volunteers and families have built 62 homes, with further plans extending through the foreseeable future.

The Big Idea 2024:
Home Stretch: Three More Homes to Go at RCC!

With just three more homes to complete, we are in the final phase of development at Rodeo Creek Court (RCC) — our eleven-home project in Live Oak, Santa Cruz. We have proudly completed eight homes and moved in eight families since breaking ground in 2020. It is an exciting time as we enter the Home Stretch with a goal to complete the last three homes by the summer, 2024.

RCC is part of our core program, Single Family Home Construction, for first-time homebuyers. To qualify, households must earn 50%-80% of area median income, have a need for improved housing, and be willing to partner with us to provide 500 hours of “sweat equity.”

They help build their homes alongside the Habitat professional construction crew and generous community volunteers. Once their homes are complete, families obtain an affordable mortgage, paying no more than 30% of income on housing costs. We empower families with in-depth homeowner education to help improve and maintain all facets of their lives. Through this, and the affordable mortgage, families build strength, stability, and self-reliance.

Please help us support these families and future Habitat homeowners.

Having a Habitat home means you have more of a connection to where you live, to your actual home, because you get to see it come to life, and you get to know your neighbors as you build each other’s homes. Habitat represents what I’ve always wanted to have in a neighborhood but hadn’t found it, and being a homeowner means I can provide a stable place for my daughters.
