MBMG extends research-based knowledge and information on home horticulture, pest management, and sustainable landscape practices to the residents/home gardeners.
Gardens don’t require a yard. We’d like to teach local families to grow their own food in 10-gallon grow bags filled with nutrient-rich soil. Equipped with basic gardening info and planting tips from bilingual classes, families select desired vegetable and herb plants.
Participants leave the hands-on workshop with their own planted portable garden (approximately 2 feet in diameter), the promise of healthy vegetables for the season (5-10 plants per bag), and empowerment to continue growing their own food (bags are re-usable; one bag for the fall/winter plantings, and two bags for spring/summer).
With your support, we will fund the bags, soil and plants for the portable gardens, as well as increase the number of plants we propagate and refurbish an empty greenhouse offered to us at the SCC Fairgrounds in order to serve more SCC families. The greenhouse is sound, plumbed and wired. Your contribution will allow us to install misters, timers, fans, and some additional equipment. We are uniquely positioned to engage underserved SC County residents and directly address food insecurity.
With knowledge, grow bags & plants, successful gardens CAN happen, and translate into daily incorporation of fresh produce in diets. Let's bring it to SC County!
