Motion Pacific

Organization Mission

Motion Pacific is a 501(c)3 charitable arts organization dedicated to dance as art, cultivating imagination, community engagement and discipline through accessible dance education and presentation.

We elevate access to movement and expressive arts for specific underserved communities, including people with Parkinson’s Disease, BIPOC community members and LGBTQI+ communities.

The Big Idea 2024:
Black, Brown, and Queer Festival 2024

BBQueer (Black, Brown and Queer) is a series of performances, collective actions, workshops and gatherings by artists from diverse backgrounds and performance practices, culminating in a multi-day fall festival.

BBQueer celebrates the transformative power and embodied activism of Queer Black, Indigenous and People of Color and is a direct response to the County of Santa Cruz’s declaration that racism is a public health crisis. Through the arts and community gatherings, BBQueer provides a home where the BIPOC queer community can feel seen, affirmed, included and safe, and creates an opportunity to guide our wider community in how to support youth and rewrite the social narrative to be one of safety, inclusion, accessibility, and love.

This annual performance festival is offered free of charge and brings performances and workshops to public settings not traditionally designated as theatrical spaces in order to disrupt patterns of access and extend these offerings throughout the County.

Your donation in action:
• $20-$35: One ticket for a BBQueer event for a low-income attendee
• $75: One BBQueer stagehand
• $500: Motion Pacific’s facility rent for the night
• $1500: BBQueer’s lighting designer
• $10,000: Entire funding gap for BBQueer

Motion Pacific is my home away from home!! They have the best variety of adult classes with amazing instructors. The studio is a highly inclusive space which strives to reach all corners of our community to offer dance to all. Come find your rhythm at Motion.
