Long Term Recovery Group of Santa Cruz County

Organization Mission

To facilitate the coordination, communication, cooperation and collaboration necessary for disaster preparedness, response, recovery and resiliency for both individuals and communities in the greater Santa Cruz County area.

The Big Idea 2026:
Rebuilding Homes, Restoring Hope

After the CZU Lightning Fire and 2023 atmospheric rivers, many families still struggle to rebuild their lives. Recovery remains long and challenging, especially for those with insufficient insurance. Our project offers hope by mobilizing skilled volunteers led by a licensed general contractor to build and repair homes for families who lost everything.

SCCLTRG acts as a hub that brings together a network of organizations to address the complex needs of disaster survivors.

Some of our goals:

We avoid duplication of effort following a disaster when many nonprofits, faith-based groups, and government agencies rush to help. Without coordination these efforts can overlap and waste resources. SCCLTRG ensures everyone shares information and works together. Survivors don’t have to tell their story repeatedly to multiple organizations to get help.

Our case manager connects individuals or families with resources from our network of partners —help with legal aid, building permits, mental health support, etc. By pooling financial, material, and volunteer resources from member organizations, SCCLTRG can maximize their
impact and leverage the group’s network to serve more people and address a wide range of needs.

SCCLTRG also addresses needs unmet by emergency response efforts or insurance claims. For example, a family’s insurance policy may only cover a portion of their home’s rebuilding costs. We work with various partner organizations to pool resources.

Our organization is building a foundation for long-term community resilience. The network of trust and cooperation we are fostering among government agencies, nonprofits, and the community can quickly be activated during emergencies.

It has been a long while since we have gotten a phone call from someone like you, offering to help out of the blue. I am so impressed by your "go-getter" attitude that I feel that no matter what the outcome, it has made us feel "not-forgotten".
