To preserve and share the history of the San Lorenzo Valley.
The Museum operates two galleries, in Felton and Boulder Creek. All programming is free: entrance to the Museum galleries, historical talks and walks, access to the archives and reference library, and events (except for fundraisers). Both locations host permanent and temporary exhibitions each year, and offsite exhibitions such as our contemporary art exhibition at the Santa Cruz County Government Center.
Sharing the region’s cultural history increases a sense of belonging, which leads to stronger civic engagement.
We plan to implement a grade 4 in-person program with in-classroom resources and on-site programming tied to California core curricula with a focus on early San Lorenzo Valley industries of lumber, leather, lime, blasting powder, and mining at our Felton museum. Accomplished by expanding our volunteer base, offering paid internships, fabricating interpretive panels, and developing and distributing “marketing” materials to schools, parents, clubs, and partner institutions such as libraries.
My students LOVED the field trip today! They talked all about it on the way back to school and said it was, "the best field trip ever!" Thank you and the other volunteers for all of your hard work and dedication in providing this experience.
