The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History

Organization Mission

Connecting people with nature and science to inspire stewardship of the natural world.

The Big Idea 2022:
The Museum at Your Side

Early in 2020, we launched a new collection of resources, “The Museum at Your Side,” providing educators, families, and our community with programs and tools for understanding science and exploring nature wherever they are. The success of this pandemic-inspired project has us ready to launch the next phase of bringing the Museum to the community online and in person.

Expanding the Museum at Your Side means increasing access to Museum programs, collections, exhibits and offering additional in-person events throughout Santa Cruz County.

Natural history museums are a gateway to fostering a lifelong interest in science and a better understanding of the world we share. With your help, we can provide greater access to valuable resources and opportunities for science learning across Santa Cruz County.

Throughout my career, at Save Our Shores and O’Neill Sea Odyssey, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with the Natural History Museum. They are an innovative and high-quality education center and science incubator. Many families in the region have a story of discovery associated with the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History.

We’re In This Together

Nonprofits are more important that ever in this trying time. Santa Cruz Gives! was created to support the local nonprofit community's Big Ideas (and programs). And thanks to your participation and generosity, Santa Cruz Gives! raised over $1.10 million for 82 local nonprofits in 2021.

SCGives! has now raised and contributed over $36 million dollars since its inception Seven years ago. That’s astounding. And wonderful. Thank you to all our Partners, Sponsors, nonprofit Board Directors, staff and volunteers — and each of our 1,455 donors. We did it, together.
