Wings Homeless Advocacy is committed to living out our values of compassion, dignity and respect for all people by uniting our community to be volunteer advocates for those moving out of homelessness and onto a path of healing. Moving out of homelessness isn’t an event — it’s a journey.
Wings focuses on two critical steps in that journey: We help people overcome barriers to housing and we provide the newly housed with basic needs for health, hygiene, and dignity. Working with case managers from over a dozen support agencies in Santa Cruz County, we connect our volunteers with people experiencing homelessness to help them obtain the resources needed to become housed and self-sufficient.
Our Big Idea for 2024 is to raise $7,000 to help seniors who are transitioning from homelessness to home. We help seniors through both our Welcome Home and Vital Docs programs, assisting them in getting their important documents and making sure they have what they need to live independent, safe, healthy lives in their new housing.
We’ve seen an uptick in senior homelessness and it breaks our hearts — but also moves us to action. Wings has no building expenses, and by coordinating 50 volunteers, we leverage the power of community in action.
Homelessness just wears you down, it ages you. I've had my birth certificates stolen over the years and I need one for resources, an ID, and just to be able to prove I am who I say I am. The government needs to know who you are before they can help you.
